You’ve probably heard of colon cleansing in magazines and television shows, but what exactly is it?
Why do people do it?
Believe it or not, colon cleansing has many benefits.
Here are just a few examples of colon cleanse benefits so you can see why colon cleansing is a powerful and desirable health aide.
Relief From Certain Ailments
There are many seemingly random ailments that can actually cause, or at least exacerbate, certain health problems. A good example would be skin problems.
If you think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense. Toxins accumulate in your colon and can sometimes escape into your bloodstream or other organs.
Skin is the largest organ in your body, and if the toxins reach it, it can cause anything from acne to an allergic rash. Similarly, fatigue is a common symptom of a toxic colon.
All that toxic build up means your body has to work harder, which means you get tired faster. Other conditions that can be caused or aggravated by a toxic colon include headaches, back pain, abdominal gas, and bad breath, among other things.
At any rate, colon cleansing removes these toxins from your body, which would clear up things like fatigue and bad breath quickly.
If you suffer from any of these ailments, you may see the benefits of colon cleanse.
One of many colon cleanse benefits is the ability of colon cleansing to prevent certain problems from appearing later in life. Most of the things are related to the intestine. Ulcers, or diverticulitis, for example.
If food is slow to pass, it can weaken intestinal linings, as can toxins, causing bulging pouches that can later on become infected. Diverticulitis requires emergency surgery. You can see why we’d want to avoid that.
Colon cleansing benefits the body by making sure the gastrointestinal track stays efficient and removing any built up toxins, reducing or eliminating risk factors for things like diverticulitis.
Whole Body Health
Aside from treating or preventing specific things, colon cleansing promotes whole body health. It boosts your immune system, which makes you less likely to get sick.
It also raises energy levels and who wouldn’t want to have more energy to do things. In terms of athletic performance, it has been found to increase endurance, as well as muscle strength.
A study was done on a man who did a 7 day detoxification fast, including colon cleansing, and although he had eaten nothing for 7 days, he proved to be able to lift weights up to 3 times the amount he was usually able to do. How’s that for whole body strength and wellness?
Risks or Complications
Although there are many benefits to colon cleansing, there are certain individuals to whom the risks would probably outweigh the benefits.
Now, it’s not impossible for these people to reap the benefits of colon cleansing, but they would need to get cleared and be closely supervised by their primary care physician.
People who should avoid colon cleansing or get cleared by their doctor before attempting a colon cleanse are people with active diverticulitis, tumors or cancer of the intestines, heart disease, or kidney disease.
These are the main types of illnesses that aren’t conducive to colon cleansing, but there maybe more so it’s important to ask your doctor first if you have any pre-existing condition.
Hopefully I’ve helped you to understand how and why colon cleansing can be very beneficial and a great addition to your “staying healthy” regimen.
